The Arlington Police Department invites you to participate in the 26th annual National Night Out (NNO) crime, drug, and violence prevention program sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). The event will be held on Tuesday,
October
6, 2009 and is expected to involve hundreds of Arlington residents and millions across the country.
The purpose of National Night Out is to build strong partnerships between the police and communities and to promote crime awareness programs such
as Neighborhood Community Watch groups. According to NATW, last year’s event was the largest ever that involved 37 million people in 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide.
On October 6th, residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights and gather with their neighbors to show unity against criminal activity. If you would like to register as a National Night Out participant, please contact
APD Crime Prevention Specialist Curtice Ervin at 817-459-5732. Registered communities may be visited by public service personnel such as those from police, fire, and
emergency medical services. For the past 20 years, the City of Arlington, Texas has received a national award for participation in NNO. Without your help, NNO would not be possible. If you would like to help the City of Arlington take a proactive stance against crime and compete for another national award, please register for National Night Out in your community.
If you would like to receive a free starter kit, updates and official NNO
catalogue from the
National Association of Town Watch, visit their website to register your
gathering.

NNO Barricade Request Procedure
The requests for barricades must be made through the city’s Public
Works/Transportation Department. The event coordinator needs to obtain the
signatures of each resident who would be affected by a barricaded street. If an
affected house is vacant, then the word “vacant” can be listed next to the
physical address in the signature line. The signatures and a map of the affected
street must be provided to Public Works/Transportation for approval and must be
submitted a minimum of 5-7 business days in advance to allow for sufficient
processing time. They can be
delivered (101 W. Abram St.- 2nd floor) or faxed (817- 459-6585) to their
office. Once approval is granted, a letter of approval will be sent to the event
coordinator and the Transportation Department will receive a work order to drop
off barricades at the designated dropping point. Your signature list should also
contain the contact information for the event coordinator and the physical
address where the barricades need to be delivered for your area. There is no
cost associated with barricade requests for National Night Out. ** Please note:
If one resident on the affected street does not agree to the barricades and does
not provide a signature, the city will not approve the barricade request. **
Questions about the process can be directed to Public Works/Transportation at
(817) 459-6550.
